When we started Happy Flower, our goal was always to have our very own indoor hemp grow. For over 3 years we have been learning the ins and outs of hemp. We have always been cannabis cultivators, but hemp is different. While hemp is legal federally, in order to maintain it’s <.30% delta 9 THC levels, it has to be harvested on a different schedule than THC cannabis.
So we started to learn all we could. Who had the best genetics? What were the laws surrounding growing hemp flower and selling it online? What were the differences between cultivating hemp and THC cannabis? We visited large scale hemp farms (indoor and greenhouse) to see it with our own eyes. We even grew our own test strains in our basement in grow tents.
During all of this time we had a wonderful partnership with Black Dog LED. Using their grow lights for cultivating legal cannabis, we had amazing results and incredibly large yields. The terpene content of our cannabis and potency were off the charts. So why wouldn’t we use their grow lighting systems for our own hemp?
Last year we pitched the idea to the owners of Black Dog LED about starting an indoor hemp grow facility. They believed in what we were wanting to accomplish and agreed to help out by building an on site hemp grow facility. We made a long list of everything we would need for the project. Slowly we started to purchase the equipment we would need to make this dream a reality. Commercial grade mini-split AC system, commercial grade dehumidifier, movable benches, water tanks, reverse osmosis system, nutrients and the most important of all, amazing genetics.
Fortunately, we had done our homework over the past few years and were slowly building a stockpile of never before seen genetics that had been grown again and again to create the best of the best (cutie is one of these strains for those of you that were lucky enough to get your hands on it when we sold it last year). Now we have a wide variety of quality small batch strains with diverse terpene profiles and high amounts of CBD and CBG.
Fast forward to today. The images you see here are the grow in action. In the coming weeks we will be posting updates from our grow so you can watch the grow happen with us. We have a separate veg room where the plants get their start before coming in to the grow room you see below. We should be harvesting every 6-7 weeks followed by time in the drying room and 3 weeks of curing.
We are so thankful to have partners in Black Dog LED. With their help we will be producing a new level of hemp flower that has yet to be seen.
